From Performance to Purpose: Stuart Brown’s Path to True Freedom

Stuart Brown’s journey with Pure Encouragement began two and a half years ago when he was invited to join a Journey Group. Since then, he has become an integral part of the ministry, now completing his third year in a Journey Group and recently finishing the 30-Day Identity Challenge. However, it was last fall, after God led him to take the Freedom in Christ course, that Stuart’s eyes were truly opened to his identity in Christ. Through this course, he discovered a powerful truth—he is deeply loved, fully accepted, and made new in Christ. This profound shift, from seeing himself through his own perspective to viewing himself as God does, has been nothing short of life-changing.

For years, he had been part of a church culture where his value seemed tied to his level of service. He was constantly busy—ushering, counting offerings, driving buses, teaching Sunday school, running teen camps, and even serving in security. It felt as if his worth was based on performance—on how much he was doing for Christ.

Through the Freedom in Christ course, he finally grasped the truth: God’s love isn’t based on performance. There is no debt to repay—Christ paid it all. Now, he serves not out of guilt or obligation but out of love and gratitude.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.” (KJV, Romans 8:1)

Stuart’s advice is simple but powerful: read Psalm 139. It’s a beautiful reminder that God knows everything about you and still loves you completely. He believes that men aren’t meant to walk through life alone and that surrounding yourself with godly accountability partners is essential. By getting plugged into a church, joining a life group, and building genuine relationships with Christian brothers, men can find the encouragement and challenge they need to grow stronger in their faith.

Through Pure Encouragement, he has found not only a deeper relationship with Christ but also a community of men striving to live in God’s truth. For anyone searching for real freedom, taking that first step is worth it—the journey can be life-changing.
